How the airframe is appraised

Airframe value is broken up down into four distinct areas.

Exterior:

This takes in the overall condition of the exterior of the aircraft.  It includes the condition of the paint, the presence of corrosion, and the overall the aircraft skin condition.

Interior

Looks at the condition of the interior and is primarily an inspection for wear and tear.  It also considers factory specifications (is the interior factory or has it been modified)

Damage history

A through aircraft damage history is completed
Step one is to evaluate the log books for damage entries.
Step two is to check NTSB records for listings of the aircraft's involvement in any accidents.

Maintenance history. 

Has aircraft maintenance been preformed in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and FAA guidelines.

Finally a thorough check of AD (Airworthiness Directives.)  We look to find out if all of the AD s have been complied with, or are there outstanding ones?
